For the second time in three meetings, the East Lincoln girls soccer team beat Hickory Thursday 2-1. East had won the first meeting with the Red Tornadoes two weeks ago, but in the final regular season game, they could only manage a 1-all tie. This time, the win moves the Mustangs into the third round of the NCHSAA 3A playoffs. They'll host Asheboro on Monday.
The season came to an end for the Lincolnton girls, who lost 3-1 to Madison. It was a great season. They finished with a 16-6 record and won the Catawba Valley Conference championship, losing only once in the league.
In playoff games involving other area teams, East Gaston advanced in 2A play beating Salisbury 5-0; in 3A play Lake Norman Charter downed St. Stephens 9-0 and South Point beat Stuart Cramer 6-0.
