Cherryville Post 100 defeated Matthews Post 235 9-6 in American Legion baseball Monday night (July 11th). Cherryville had earned a first round bye finishing tops in the west of Area IV and made quick work of their opponents in round two. Joseph Webb had a two-run shot in the 5th and Ashton Pope slapped a solo shot in the 6th in the game at Butler High School. Post 100 added one more run in the 7th for a final 9-6 win.
The Post 144-266 Gaston Braves also won Monday night, beating Cleveland County Post 82 8-4 in eight innings for a 3-1 win in games. The Braves had eliminated Hickory Post 48 in round one. The round two win means they'll be the next opponents for Post 100.
While the playoffs so far have been best of 5 series, the Area IV semifinals, which start Thursday (July 14th) will be best of 7. The Area IV finals will be next week (July 21-23) and the NC state championship series will be at Campbell University July 26-30.
The Southeast Regional tournament will be at Asheboro August 3-7.
The American Legion World Series will be at Shelby beginning August 11th.
