The Gaston Braves (sponsored by posts 144-266) won Thursday night's opening game of the Area IV American Legion baseball playoffs 4-0 at Cherryville's Fraley Field. The second game in the best of seven series is scheduled for Friday night at South Point High School. Game 3 will be back in Cherryville. [Games 1,3,5,7 at Fraley Field. Games 2,4,6 at South Point HS.]

Post 100 could only get two hits in the first six innings; they started off the seventh with their third hit, a single by Will Blackburn, and a one-out walk to Reid Stroup, then following a fly out to center field, another base on balls to Landon Hahn loaded the bases, but that's where it ended. A grounder to short retired the side and preserved the shutout for Chase Stewart.

The Braves overcame four errors in the game with an eight-hit attack. Post 100 committed two errors and could manage only the three hits off Stewart.

With the win, the Braves, who swept Hickory in the first round of the playoffs three games to none and Cleveland County in the second round three games to one improved to 19-4 on the season. Post 100 is now 17-11.

In the other semifinal series, Queen City beat Rutherford County in game one.
