LINCOLNTON––The impending opening of Lincoln County’s new courthouse is a thing of much anticipation.

But before the new facility opens to the public, court officials and staffers will conduct a series of mock trials, May 2-5, according to Superior Court Trial Court Co-ordinator Kinsley Craig.

“These mock trial settings will consist of scenarios in each of the courtrooms and in various spaces of the court facility to review logistics, such as acoustics, lighting, audio-visual, paths of travel, security protocols, etc. to ensure that things will run smoothly when our new facility opens to the public,” Craig said Tuesday. “This is where we need your help. We invite you, your office staff and anyone you may be aware of who might have an interest to participate in these mock trial settings and join us as we prepare for our grand opening to the public!

“There is a need for physical bodies and volunteers to serve in various roles––i.e., as mock jurors, witnesses, etc.––to aid in certain scenarios as we go over each session throughout the week,” she continued. “Participating during these mock trial settings will not only allow you an opportunity to see our new court facility in Lincoln County prior to its opening to the public but it will also extend the opportunity for you as a member of our community to be a part of its opening. And we are so incredibly excited to have you be a part!”

Craig added that various scenarios are planned each day of this particular week, with the most important day being Thursday, May 5.

“If you intend to be a part of this process,” she said, “we ask that you make an effort to attend a minimum of one of the sessions on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and definitely make arrangements to attend the Thursday session, as this will be the biggest task for the week, where the most people will be needed.”

Mock trial dates and times include Monday, May 2, 9 a.m.-noon and 2-5 p.m.; Tuesday, May 3, 9 a.m.-noon; Wednesday, May 4, 9 a.m.-noon and 2-5 p.m.; and Thursday, May 5, 9 a.m.-noon.

To reserve your spot, e-mail Craig at kinsley.m.craig@nccourts.org, and include your availability/preference with what sessions work best for you.

“I will forward you a calendar appointment,” she added. “E-mail will be how all communications, details and updates will be sent relating to the mock trial week.”
