Pleasant Grove UMC Fundraiser, Saturday, October 8: Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church at 2069 Highway 182 West, Lincolnton, NC 28092 will have a BBQ Sandwiches/Fried Apple Pies Sale Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. BBQ sandwiches will be $3, fried apple pies $3, and a bag lunch with a sandwich, chips, a cookie and drink will be $5. They'll also be selling apple butter for $6 for a pint. You can pre-order at 704-472-0388.
Our Community, Our Heritage Festival, October 8: The Lincoln County Public Library will be celebrating National Family History Month in October by hosting its annual Our Community, Our Heritage Festival on Saturday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Cultural Center, 403 E. Main St., Lincolnton, NC 28092. This event is free and open to the public. For additional information visit or call 704-735-8044. Keynote speakers will be Melissa Timo, from the North Carolina Office of State Archeology, who will also share best practices for historic cemetery care. Diana Bell-Kite from the NC Museum of History will explore storytelling with quilts and the vibrant mid-twentieth century, southern tradition of funeral ribbon quilts. Land records and historical maps, which are important but often overlooked in genealogical research, will be the topics of discussion for David McCorkle, President and Founder at NC Historical Records Online. The program also features some presentations on African America genealogy with. Nolan Dahm, Education Specialist at the Charlotte Museum of History, Sydney Carroll and Sheila Bumgarner from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, will examine Black genealogy research and the benefits of DNA testing. Local speakers include Robert Carpenter, who will take participants on a journey exploring the life, parentage, and children of a recently discovered family member and Terry Waldrup discussing old gravesites in Lincoln and Gaston counties. Library staff will provide information about resources available for researching genealogy, the 1950s census data, and a new Backpack historian initiative.
Notice is hereby given that the following Public Hearings will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall located at 114 West Sycamore Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092 concerning the following: CZ-9-2022- Application from Edgewater Ventures requesting the conditional zoning of 30.33 acres from Planned Business-Special Highway Overlay (PB SHO) District to the General Manufacturing and Commercial (GMC-CD) District for the purpose of constructing a 270,000 square foot industrial building. The subject property is located on the west side of Car Farm Road approximately 600 feet south of the intersection of Car Farm Road and Maiden Highway. (Parcel ID 00822). Parties in interest and citizens shall have the opportunity to be heard and may obtain further information on the scheduled public hearing from the Planning Department on the second floor of City Hall located at 114 West Sycamore Street, Lincolnton 28092.
BCUMC Pumpkin Patch, September 24–October 31: Boger City United Methodist Church’s Pumpkin Patch will open on Saturday, September 24 with over 2,000 pumpkins and gourds from the Navaho Indian Reservation in Farmington, New Mexico. This fundraiser helps fund their church missions and helps benefit the Navaho Nation. Hours for the Pumpkin Patch will be Monday-Friday from 12 noon until 8 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday 12 noon until 8 p.m. Prices will be based on the size of the pumpkins and gourds. Bring your camera for photo opportunities. The church is located at 2320 East Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092 (across from the Village Inn Pizza).
