Gaston College held its 59th commencement ceremony on Friday at CaroMont Health Park in Gastonia.

With 1,225 graduates honored, this was the largest class yet for the college in its history of almost 60 years. The graduates received credentials, diplomas and associate’s degrees from 69 curriculum programs. Some 650 graduates were recognized individually as they walked across the stage during the presentation of candidates. 

Gaston College President Dr. John Hauser welcomed attendees and congratulated the graduates.

“All of today’s graduates have earned distinction through their hard work and commitment to reaching their goals,” Hauser said. “Graduates, we join your family and friends in celebrating your accomplishments, and we commend you on your attainment.

“Your time as a student at Gaston College has been filled with moments,” he continued. “Some of those moments were amazing, joyous and fun. Others were disappointing, hard and sometimes even sad. You’ve had small moments and big moments, and I know many of you have experienced life-changing moments during your time here. All these moments are part of your story, and I promise you that there’s more to write. And we can’t wait to see where it goes for each of you. You are part of my story, and I’m proud to stand up here today as the seventh president of Gaston College, in front of our largest graduating class yet, to experience this special moment with all of you. Keep making new moments. Keep enjoying those moments you experience. And always keep learning from your moments. Class of 2024, take your momentum, and go do big things. We know you’re ready for it.”
