A packed crowd at Hickory's Ridgeview Library Wednesday (May 8th) heard details and expressed opinions on Charlotte Water's intent to increase its interbasin transfer of water from the Catawba River to the Rocky River basin to 63 million gallons per day.

Lincoln County Has Positive Rabies Case

On Thursday, the North Carolina State Public Health Laboratory confirmed a case of rabies found in a bat in Lincoln County. This is the county’s first report of rabies this year.

Local Newspaper Switching Days

Subscribers to the local print newspaper, the Lincoln Times-News, probably noticed they didn't receive a Thursday paper this week. The paper, which had been publishing on Mondays and Thursdays, is switching publication days effective next week.

Storm Recovery Continues

It wasn't Hugo (the Sept. 1989 hurricane) but in some locations, damage was reminiscent. Most of the electric and cable/satellite outages have ended and service restored, but the cleanup will continue through the weekend.

Cleanup Continues After Deadly Storm (Friday May 10th update)

Thursday was cleanup day for many in our area after the deadly storm that hit Wednesday afternoon (May 8th).

Gaston County Reports Third Rabies Case of Year

A raccoon found in a barn off Stanley-Lucia Road was confirmed to have rabies. It was the third case (all in wild animals) in Gaston County this year.

Cleanup Continues After Deadly Storm (Thursday May 9th article)

Thousands were left without electricity, some roads were closed, one person was killed in Gaston County, and students in Gaston & Cleveland counties won't have school Thursday (May 9th) due to the Wednesday afternoon storm.

Man Convicted of Setting Fire in 2017

A man who set fire to an ex-girlfriend's home in July 2017 was convicted in Gaston County court Monday (May 6th), but Derrick Higdon got a sentence far less than what the original charges might have brought.

Rescheduled for September 14th

The Lincolnton Food, Wine & Brew Fest originally scheduled for Saturday May 4th has been rescheduled for the second Saturday in September (Sept. 14th). No festival this week, but there's still plenty to see and do.

CVCC Wins Big At Skills USA Conference

Held last month in Greensboro, Skills USA is a national competition involving the skilled and technical education programs of middle, high school and college/post-secondary education institutions. Some 24 students will represent CVCC at the National Skills USA Competition this summer.

CVCC, Mars Hill Sign Articulation Agreement

This week, the two schools signed an articulation agreement that will help CVCC students navigate a seamless transition into a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice, available via Mars Hill’s Internet-based learning programs.
