No school in Gaston & Cleveland counties Thursday
Thousands were left without electricity, some roads were closed, one person was killed in Gaston County, and students in Gaston & Cleveland counties won't have school Thursday (May 9th) due to the Wednesday afternoon storm.
Rescheduled for September 14th
The Lincolnton Food, Wine & Brew Fest originally scheduled for Saturday May 4th has been rescheduled for the second Saturday in September (Sept. 14th). No festival this week, but there's still plenty to see and do.
GNEM Coming to Lincoln County
Lithium is the future--thanks to the growth in electric vehicles and other needs for the mineral. The NC Dept. of Commerce announced this past week that Green New Energy Materials, Inc., a manufacturer of a key component in lithium-ion betteries, will establish its first US operation in eastern Lincoln County, providing 55 new jobs with a $140 million investment.
United Methodists Approve LGBTQ Changes
Denominaion adopts new definition of marriage, approves LGBTQ ordination
After differences over sexual orientation have led to a mass exodus of churches, the United Methodist Church convened a two-week session in Charlotte that made major changes in doctrine. The UNC will now bless same-sex marriages and ordain LGBTQ clergy.
2024 Alive After Five May 23rd
The weather forced the postponement of the Food, Wine & Brew Fest until September, but Alive After Five for 2024 is coming Thursday May 23rd.
Mitchem Out, Davis In as Commissioners Chair
Carrol Mitchem was removed from the chairmanship of Lincoln County Commissioners in a special called meeting Wednesday afternoon (May 1st). Commissioners then chose Commissioner Cathy Davis to serve as chair.
